Sirius Arts Centre is a non-profit multidisciplinary centre for the arts in
Cobh. Running exhibitions, music concerts and Community Engagement
activities, as well as an internationally recognised Artist in Residency
Programme, the Sirius is housed in the listed heritage building, known
formerly as the Old Royal Yacht Club.
Like many arts organisations, this year is a struggle for Sirius due to the
economic downturn and €20,000 in funding cuts. This Open Garden fundraiser
is a way you can come out and enjoy one of the jewels in East Cork at
Cuskinny House and help support this worthwhile organisation at the same
time.
Local Wildlife Expert Jim Wilson will give a guided talk “Exploring
Cuskinny’s Wildlife” at 3:00pm on the day – an event you definitely won’t
want to miss!

Free tours of the Old Church Cemetery to commence on 2nd May
Starting on the 2nd May, Free Tours of the Old Church Cemetery with Jack Gilmartin on the first Sunday of every month.

Free Family Entertainment to kick start the Liner Season in Cobh
On Friday 30th April the magnificent Celebrity Eclipse liner will pay her first visit of the season to Cobh and to mark this occasion the Cobh and Harbour Chamber are hosting a full day of FREE Family entertainment to delight locals, visitors and passengers alike.
As an early prelude to the Summer Swing Series this year on 30th April 2010 the town will come alive with a host of various musical entertainment. Cobh’s own ‘Big Band’ will perform many of your favourites on the beautiful restored bandstand in Kennedy Park (known locally as ‘the prom’). The Big Band started playing together last summer, and have been regularly playing pubs and functions ever since. Featuring eight veteran musicians all from the town, including two from the Cobh Confraternity Brass & Reed Band, the band plays soul, jazz and funk with Katie McGroarty and Councillor Jim Quinlan both featuring on lead vocals. They will be followed by the very talented Niamh and Diarmuid will be on hand with traditional Irish music, Dan Noonan of Disco 2000 is sure to have you dancing and also the local farmer’s market and arts and crafts stalls will have something for everyone. Not forgetting the children who will be entertained by a face painter and balloon clown and much, much more.

Titanic Commemoration in Cobh on 11th April
On 11 April 1912 Queenstown was the final port of call for the RMS Titanic.
Cobh commemorates the tragedy of the sinking of the Titanic each year. The 2010 ceremony will take place on 11th April at 2.30 pm. 79 passengers boarded the liner in Cobh and later perished in the North Atlantic.

Aisling Keating – Time & Tide – based on th subleties of landscape, the pieces in Aisling’s exhibition were inspired by places in West Cork, Meath and Kildare. Each painting includes the element of water in some form, be it sea, river, canal , stream or flood. The landscapes portray various states of dark and light and the delicacy of nature’s layers.
Mark Whelan – Imagination & the Abstraction of Symbolic Forms. Im this exhibition Cobh based painter, Mark Whelan explores the chaose of the imagination, visual uncertainty and the abstraction of symbolic forms.
Both exhibitions run until Sunday 24 of April

The first year of the Great Island 10 mile Road Race
The inaugural Great Island 10 Mile Road Race will take place on 10th April, 2010.
All of the proceeds of the Great Island 10 will be going to the Irish Cancer Society.
The Great Island 10 is the brainchild of Roslyn Crotty who has lost her father and sister to cancer in the last two years.
As well as the 10 mile run, there will also be a 5 km walk for people who wish to support the Irish Cancer Society. Sponsorship cards are available for anyone wishing to raise funds for the charity.
