The Cobh Maritime Fundraising Weekend 23rd - 26th October


Sirius Arts Centre is organising a weekend of music concerts and sessions in Sirius and other venues to support the future of the Cobh Maritime Song Festival, featuring guests from Cobh, Cork and the UK.

WEEKEND SESSIONS
Saturday 24 – Monday 26th October
A series of music sessions featuring past performers from the Cobh Maritime Song Festival, local musicians and on Monday a special SUPER SESSION with local musicians of all ages and the Ballymore set Dancers! At each of these sessions donations will be collected along with raffles, offering great prizes. ALL PROCEEDS TO BENEFIT THE FUTURE OF THE COBH MARITIME SONG FESTIVAL!

Queen Mary 2 to visit Cobh


The Queen Mary 2, the flagship of the British merchant fleet will mark her fifth anniversary with a voyage around the British Isles in October 2009. Departing from Southampton on 15th October she will call at ports with historic Cunard connections such as South Queensferry (Edinburgh), Greenock, Liverpool, Cobh and Cherbourg. Thousands are expected to turn out to greet her as she makes her maiden calls at Greenock, Liverpool and Cobh.

The Queen Mary 2 will berth at the Cobh Cruise Liner Terminal at lunchtime on Wednesday 21st October and will sail again at 6 pm that evening. Cunard Line President, Peter Shanks who will be traveling on the voyage will lay a wreath at the Lusitania Peace Memorial in Cobh Town Centre in memory of those who died when the trans-Atlantic liner was torpedoed off the Old Head of Kinsale in 1915. The Queen Mary was the largest Cruise Liner in the world when launched on 12 January 2004 and at 345m is 6 metres longer than Independence of the Seas.

Sirius Arts Centre Presents THE HIGH GROUND

An exhibition by ART 13 - An artist Collective from Youghal, East Cork

Exhibition runs until Sunday 25 October

Based in East Cork the collective, ART13 has been working together since last year on a project titled “On the Edge of My Sky” with Marie Brett, as a means of challenging the development of their work. The exhibition “The High Ground” celebrates the outcome of the artist’s achievements.

Featuring works by:

Angela Fitzgerald, Brendan Corrigan, Brdget Sullivan, Christy O’Keefe, Joe O’Connor, John O’Reagan, Johnny Wallace, Keith Bulman, Laurence Fitzgerald, Linda Barry, Nora Kenefick and Patrick O’Sullivan
